Care
Bulldogs are loved not just for their adorable squishy faces, but for their amazing temperaments! Just like kids, each one has their own unique personality, with funny quirks, likes, and dislikes. They’re playful, sassy, loving, and often fearless – but above all, they’re incredibly in tune with your emotions. A bulldog will always be by your side, ready to snuggle and offer love after a tough day, asking for nothing more than the same affection in return. But is a bulldog the right fit for you? Let's find out!
Cost
While bulldogs are much cheaper to raise than children, you should be prepared for the ongoing costs associated with their continued care. Think about how much you can afford to spend on the following:
- Food - I promote Barf feeding (80-10-10) and do not feed my bulldogs any kibble
- Grooming needs - if using a groomer, they must be knowledgeable with brachy breeds, not using a dryer as they can overheat rapidly, keeping water away from the ear and carefully attending to face folds
- Vet expenses - spaying, limited vaccinations (we prefer to titer test, they have antibodies and cell memory, therefore, titer testing from 7 years onwards is an option) and emergencies
- Natural products only - shampoo, flea, tic and worm treatments (if and when needed)
- A good bulldog harness, collars are not suited to bulldogs because of their neck and thyroid location
- Training
- Bedding - they tend to rip up most beds, so keep it simple
- Toys
- Clothing - all dogs should have a warm coat for winter walks - depending on where you are located
- Council registration
- Pet insurance - this is a personal choice
